History -
Lexington, North
Carolina is a furniture and textile center also known for its famous
"Lexington Style" barbecue. Located in the heart of the Piedmont, it
is 21 miles south of Winston Salem and 32 miles west of Greensboro in
one of the most beautiful counties in the state.

airport in the area is the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro…30
minutes, 25 miles.
The county's largest
lake, High Rock Lake fed by the Yadkin River, features 365 miles of
shoreline dotted with homes and cottages. Indian artifacts can still
be found along its banks. In the past few years, the 15,000-acre lake
often has been the site of the BASS Master's Classic, the world's most
prestigious fishing tournament.
Formation of Davidson
County -
As
the population of Rowan County increased, people were forced to settle
further and frther from the county seat. In order to remedy this problem,
Davidson County was formed from Rowan on December 9, 1822. It was named
for General William Lee Davidson, a hero of the Revolution who was killed
in the battle of Cowan's Ford.

an internationally known realist painter from Lexington, North Carolina.
Timberlake began painting professionally in 1970 at the encouragement
of Andrew Wyeth. Although he received no formal art education or training,
his work is best known for its intricate attention to color and detail.

Barbecue - The North
Carolina Legislature has designated Lexington as "The Hickory Smoked
Barbecue Capital of North Carolina." Barbecue's beginnings in the area
actually occurred in the county during church homecomings and public
rallies, yet it was brought into Lexington's square when court was in
session in order to bring in larger crowds.
Barbecue Festival
- The Festival is held in Uptown Lexington. An eight block stretch of
Main Street is closed to traffic, with banners at either end announcing
the Festival with a logo featuring four dancing pigs. Over four hundred
exhibitors sell everything from handmade crafts to homemade fudge. Five
stages of entertainment showcase local and national artists. The festival
is for people of all ages and includes a special section of rides and
games for children, Piglet Land. Barbecue is served out of three main
tents, two at the square and another at the north end of the Festival
near Piglet Land.
